What is Yoga – the Physical and Spiritual Well-being
In India Yoga is something which was practiced science when nobody even heard the name yoga. “Yog-Shastra” or Yoga is a practice that makes you physically, mentally and spiritually one. Yoga or we can say it “YOG” is originated in ancient India and Lord Shiva was the first practitioner of yoga who introduces 112 techniques of yoga which is mentioned in his book, Vigyan Bhairava. Lord Krishna was one of the great practitioners for yoga. He said yoga can give peace of mind and soul in an intense situation like the Battle of Mahabharata and his teachings about Yoga are also mentioned in Bhagawat Gita as “Yoga-Shastra”. Most popular the book Yoga-sutra clarified yoga and how it should be practiced was introduced 700 years back from the 12th to 19th century and reintroduced to the whole world in 1893 by Swami Vivekananda who rewrite Pitanjali Yoga-sutra as Raja-yoga.
Why Yoga
- The word “Y” means that Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word “योग” that means to become one with the ultimate reality or with the absolute and leave all the materialistic things behind.
- The word “O” means OM and OM is the spiritual or sacred sound which is known as the sound of the universe. In yoga, it is believed that repeating this sound will help you to reach another sense of consciousness.
- The word “G” means the gurus who introduced and disseminated yoga and wants everyone to become one with the absolute physically and spiritually
- The word “A” means Asana which is a physical practice of body posture that helps you realize your oneness with the god with cosmic energy flow in your body.
Selfless, cleansing, freeing, balancing, inspiring, and joyfully performed actions based on a vision in which one experiences peaceful interconnectedness with all life around them.
